The Bluebird.

Last weekend my mom and I headed out to Logan for a family funeral.
It started to snow like crazy the day of the funeral (of course), but I have to admit the graveyard
was just beautiful with all the trees covered in snow.
Although the funeral was bittersweet, it was fun to catch up with extended family that I haven't seen in YEARS.

After the funeral we ate at The Bluebird, which is a little old cafe and coke shop where my grandpa and his brothers would always go as kids.
I could not get over thecute old fashion candies and the vintage look of the cafe.
I unfortunately couldn't eat the good comfort food it offered or buy anything from the candy bar,
but at least I know where to go next time I'm in Logan! ;)

I hope everyone is enjoying their week!

The Artist.

This past weekend my mom was in town so we decided to go see
Michel Hazanavicius' charming homage to the early days of cinema, The Artist.
We had been DYING to see it ever since it came out and had heard amazing things about it, so we were very excited to see it together!

It was truly glorious in the purest form.
I found myself laughing and crying all at the same time.
There was so much passion, glam, and culture in the 20's... all of which were expressed in this silent film.
It may be something less than a great movie, but it is an irresistible reminder of nearly everything that makes a movie great.

MLK in NYC.

For the long weekend I had the chance to make my way out to the big city.
It was once again a fabulous trip.
The cold weather made it a perfect excuse to brush up on my art history, as I spent most of my time in a few museums.
Admiring Monet in the Metropolitan brought back so many memories of living in London...
I think I could seriously spend all day every day in that museum.

I didn't take as many pictures this time around, but here are a few to give you a taste of what we did...

Hope everyone had a lovely MLK weekend!

Going Vegan.

To start off the new year, I've decided to go VEGAN for 1 month.
I KNOW.
Who would have ever thought that I would try something like this!
I have a few friends who have done it and who have been amazed with the results, so I figured why not?
I have never considered myself a bad eater, but at the same time I don't think I am the best at making sure I'm getting all the nutrients I need.
I'm hoping that with all the fruits and vegetables in this diet I'll make eating them more of a habit.
Of course the Texan in me is thinking I'm nuts, but I figured 1 month of not eating any meat or dairy couldn't kill me. I'm all about trying new things (at least that's what I keep telling myself...) so we'll see how it goes.

Wish me luck!

Hooray for 2012!

I can't believe the New Year is already here!
As I look back on 2011, it amazes me how many memories I have and all that I experienced.
There were times of laughter, stress, joy, uncertainty, anticipation...
and although it was probably one of my most challenging years, I am grateful for it.

One of my favorite things to do is write down my new year resolutions so at the end of the year I can look back and see all that I have accomplished. I usually make two lists: one that is simple and fun, and another that is more personal and specific of what I hope to accomplish that year.
This year will be interesting with all the changes that will occur, but I couldn't be more excited.

Cheers for new beginning, a fresh start, and a chance to become better!
2012 is going to be grand... I know it.
